One request for larger text led to a better way to read cases

A message about font size made us look again at the whole experience of reading a judgment.

On October 2, a reader wrote in Nepali asking us to make case text adjustable. They also wanted better ways to search and browse cases.

We started with the clearest need: make long judgments more comfortable to read. As we worked through the idea, a small font-size button began to feel too limited. Lawyers often need to move through many cases, compare details, and return to their results without losing their place.

A reader built around the work

Karyaniti now opens a case in a full-page reading view. Readers can change font size, line height, word and letter spacing, alignment, and text width. The choices stay saved for the next case. Back-to-results and previous/next controls make it easier to keep moving through a set of search results.

At the top of the case, a compact summary brings the subject, case type, decision date, bench, and docket together, with a link to the official record. The source text keeps its paragraph breaks, so the judgment is easier to follow on screen.

Designed around case research

We focused on the parts we could improve directly: make long judgments more comfortable to read, keep readers moving through their search results, and bring key case details into view. We will keep learning from the people who use the archive and improving the reading experience from there.

Keep the feedback coming

This change began with one reader taking the time to tell us what was difficult. If you work with Nepal case law, tell us what slows you down when you search, scan, or read a judgment.
